Part 6: Gameplay Tips
General
- Save often. Although it's a pain in the butt with this game, you'll regret it if you don't. Also use many saved games. There are 12 slots there for a reason.
- Never drop the following items: Bedroll, Recall Item, Key of the Caretaker, Key of the Scion, and Blackrock (not blackmoor) pieces.
- Activate Recall Pads.
- When you're waiting for someone to arrive: leave the area, rest, then return. They won't show up with you hanging around.
- Any place where there is a locked door and some dirt around, you can summon a Golem to open the door for you.
- There is an easy way to increase your strength and dexterity to the MAX (25). Go to Devon's house and start attacking him. He doesn't call the guards or Beran for help, he doesn't die, and he doesn't fight back. After your stats are maxed out, he won't talk to you. To get him to talk to you, go to one of his chests or dresser and move something. He'll ask what you think you're doing, and things are back to normal (except for your stats. ;) I haven't tried this one myself, so if anyone else can get this to work for them please tell me. (Just recently I was told that it only works this way in the non-patched version. In the patched version, the captain of the guard comes, and you'll have to run when you see him.)
- Throw Skeleton's bodies into the water after you kill them with weapons to keep them from resurrecting (that is, if there's water nearby).
- In places where there are red mushroom, don't walk behind things. There may be hidden ones.
- Beware of small glowing spots on the ground. They are fire spouts and will go off if you come to close.
- Beware also the puddles in the Catacombs. They're weak spots in the floor and you can fall through!
- Skeletons have different stuff in their inventory every time you kill them and Changlings and Ghosts often drop things when they die. Since skeletons resurrect when you kill them with normal weapons, you can repeatedly kill them over and over again to get items, money, and sometimes even weapons from their "dead" bodies.
- Use bags (NOT backpacks. I noticed a weird bug when you put a backpack inside a backpack) to organize your inventory and place them in specific spots in your backpack so you'll remember what's what. Unlike U7, things stay where you put them in your inventory.
- Pile coins and reagents to reduce weight and clutter.
- Use a keyring. It makes the game much easier because you don't have to keep track of which key is which. To put a key on the keyring, double-click on the key then click on any part of the ring. It holds an indefinite amount of keys. To unlock anything, just double-click on the keyring then on your target. You can also use the 'K' hotkey. If the key is on it, it will unlock.
- You can use the Aerial Servent spell to get red mushrooms and place them in your inventory. You can then throw them at your enemies and they explode.
- You can get away with stealing items from Beren and some others(not Mordea or the Smith) by placing a bag on the ground, putting the item in it, and then taking the bag with you. Don't place them in your real bag until you leave the area, though.
- If you go to Korik's (the smith) house, and sleep in his bed for a while, he will eventually leave, and lock the door. You can then loot his abode. You'll have to have the Recall Item to get out again, though. You can also do this at Rhian's with the gems, and then sell them back to her.
- In the Monastary on Argentrock, there is an invisible chest. Take a few steps west, and stand under the small overhang. Cast reveal and a chest will appear with magic armguards and some orange potions.
- The infamous U8 Cheat Room
- The Cheesy Book! - In the Ethereal Void, stand between the Northern pillars and cast Conflagration (or use flasks) and a small black book will appear. Read it for a (very) small laugh.
